Create a room

Create a timer room for your live session.

A PresentationTimer room is the shared timing workspace for one presentation, class, meeting, webinar, or event. Create it in one click, configure the first timer in Host, then share focused read-only views only after the basic session setup is ready.

What you get first

Every new room starts ready to configure.

Creating a room gives you a usable starting point, not a blank technical setup. Rename the defaults and adjust the first timer to match your session before you share anything with the room.

Room name

New Timer Room

The shared workspace that holds the agenda, connected views, and live timing state.

First timer

Presentation

The initial agenda item. Rename it to match the opening segment of your session.

Starting duration

10:00

A ten-minute countdown ready to adjust before you begin the live session.

Room creation workflow

Create, name, check, and share in that order.

  1. STEP 01

    Select Create room

Choose Create room from the homepage or this guide. PresentationTimer creates the room immediately and opens its Host workspace in the same browser. There is no separate setup form to complete first, so you can start with a working timer room and refine it from the controls you will actually use during the session.

The Host workspace is the first screen you see after creating a room.
  2. STEP 02

    Recognize the default room

A new room starts with the name New Timer Room and one 10-minute timer named Presentation. These defaults give you a usable starting point for a talk, meeting item, lesson, or rehearsal. They are not fixed: rename the room and the timer before the session so the Host, speaker, and production team can quickly recognize what the room is for.

Rename defaults before other people need to recognize the room.

  3. STEP 03

    Set up the first timer

Use the Host workspace to make the initial timer match the work you are about to run. Give it a clear segment name, check the duration, and add the next agenda item when the session has more than one part. A short agenda is usually easier to follow than a collection of unrelated timers because each connected view follows the same active room.

  4. STEP 04

    Keep the Host workspace private

Use Host on the laptop or tablet that will run the live session. It is the control surface for starting, pausing, editing, moving between agenda items, and making time corrections. Do not use the Host link as the audience screen or send it to a speaker who only needs a timing cue. Share a read-only view instead.

Make the first shared-screen check from Display, not from the Host workspace.

  5. STEP 05

Check the shared view before starting

When the room and first timer are ready, open Display on the projector, confidence monitor, screen-share computer, or second screen. Verify that the same room and expected timer appear there. Then start the timer from Host. If a presenter or producer needs extra context, share Speaker or Moderator View only after the basic Host-to-Display path is working.

Make the first shared-screen check from Display, not from the Host workspace.

Before you share

A quick room-ready checklist.

  • The room and first timer have clear names.
  • The expected duration and next agenda item are set in Host.
  • The Host workspace stays on the control device.
  • Display has been opened and checked on the audience-facing screen.

FAQ

Common room-creation questions

Do I need to fill out a form before creating a room?

No. Select Create room and PresentationTimer opens a new Host workspace immediately. The room begins with a default name and one 10-minute Presentation timer, which you can rename and adjust from Host.

What is the difference between a room and a timer?

A room is the shared timing workspace for the complete session. It holds the active timer, any additional agenda items, and the connected Host, Display, Speaker, Moderator, and Agenda views. A timer is one segment inside that room, such as Welcome, Presentation, Break, or Q and A.

Should I share the Host link with a speaker or audience?

No. Keep Host on the device that controls the live session. Open Display for a projector, second screen, or screen share. Give a presenter Speaker View and a producer or facilitator Moderator View when they need a read-only timing cue or room context.
